Travel Guide: A Few Days in Dreamy Tulum, Mexico

243A3C18-0ED2-47B2-BDBE-80B11A2A429D.JPG

When a few friends of mine and I decided we will be traveling to Mexico, I knew Tulum was a MUST visit on our list. I have heard so many amazing stories about the little town that I set out to plan on spending a few days in the bohemian inspired town.

There are so many things wonderful things to do in Tulum, from the cute restaurants and cafes, to the crystal clear cenotes to visiting Mayan ruins, Tulum is a world of its own.

We ended up staying in an airbnb in Playa Del Carmen this time, however the next time we visit Tulum, since there is a whole street lined up with beautiful hotels overlooking the ocean, we will be staying in a hotel there to gain a full experience.

We left our airbnb relatively early, around 8 am and stopped by for breakfast at a cute hotel overlooking the ocean called Pierda Escondida. The restaurant itself was bright and airy with a beautiful bar and outside patio overlooking the beach. Just a few steps down from the restaurant, there are lounge chairs and hammocks to relax and take in the sun after a wonderful meal.

I ordered a dish called Huevos a La Veracruzano , three delectable tortillas stuffed with scrambled eggs and dipped in a black bean sauce with queso sprinkled on top. Of course I had to have my coffee, so I ordered a cappuccino as well which came in a beautiful glass, garnished with cinnamon.

After breakfast we set out to explore the Mayan Ruins.

After exploring the ruins, we needed to cool of and decided to go Snorkling. We were taken to the reef where the water was emerald-green. We were able to see small fish and a giant turtle!

All the excitement of swimming with sea turtles made us extremely hungry, off to dinner at Ziggy’s Beach Club! The ambience truly awoke my senses. Paradise at its finest, Ziggy beach has an aromatic, delightful menu as well as a mariachi band who sang the entire evening. I could not imagine a more perfect way of ending the night.

The following day we just had to stop at Matcha Mama for a delectable acai bowl. I wanted to try something new so I chose the matcha colada. Inexpensive and delicious, nothing was more refreshing sitting on a swing and enjoying the ambience. They serve everything, from smoothies to ice cream to raw juices. A must try when in Tulum.

Right next to Matcha Mama was a coconut stand where you can purchase a fresh coconut.

We visited the Gran Cenote for a dip and were mesmerized by the crystal clear waters.

We decided to have a light dinner at Coco Tulum. The vibe was great, it had a very light and airy atmosphere and the patio overlooking the ocean had a great beachy vibe.

Snapseed (18).jpgSnapseed (15).jpg

We ordered guacamole and chips because face it, when in Mexico you just can’t stop eating guacamole. We also ordered a few salads and fish ceviche. The food was delicous, however the drinks were very mediocre. We enjoyed the vibe more so than the actual drinks but it was definitely an excellent place to sit down and enjoy the peacefulness.

Snapseed (16).jpg

After dinner we headed over for drinks at Kin Toh. I cannot explain how cool place was. The best way to describe it would be a humongous tree house. The minute we walked in, I felt like a forest nymph, climbing up a beautifully lit staircase to the top of the world, surrounded by lush greenery. It felt like a world of its own. Once at the top, there is a large hammock with a gorgeous view where you can absorb the beauty. Looking down you can see the first floor of the restaurant as you are perched hundreds of feet up in the air.

The drinks were incredible, very tasty and refreshing. Although they were on the pricier side but very well worth it.

The following day we drove to the state of Yucatan to see one of the seven wonders of the world Chichen-Itza. It was such a magnificent experience.

Snapseed (3).jpgSnapseed (2).jpg

When visiting Chichen-Itza, I recommend hiring a guide. There are plenty federal guides on site who are relatively inexpensive.  He explained the entire history of the temple, and this helped understand the history since there aren’t any plaques with information anywhere.

I hope you enjoyed this post! Are you traveling to Mexico? I would love to know your thoughts in the comments below.

Minimalism and How it Changed My Life. 5 Benefits of Owning Less

We’ve all heard of the phrase “less is more”. After several months of organizing and reorganizing my living space, I can safely say that I am most satisfied with living a simpler lifestyle.

Minimalism…What is it?

An alternative lifestyle where you simplify and downsize to only the essentials. There are different methods of incorporating minimalism into your lifestyle, so don’t be afraid to experiment. Eventually you will find what fits your lifestyle. It may take time to find the right method for you but here are a few benefits on why it is worth giving it a try.

1. You will have a clean, open space. Fewer items, means less opportunity for items and dust to pile up. Let’s face it, cleaning is tedious. One of my biggest problems was getting rid of clothes I no longer use. Some had sentimental value, others still had the tag on them and were never worn so I felt bad getting rid of them. Finally enough was enough. I decided to only keep what I wear the most and everything else was either donated or thrown away if it was no longer in wearable condition.  That means the cleaning process becomes quicker and easier.

2. You will feel a decrease in stress. With clothes everywhere, an unmade bed, and other unnecessary items accumulating all over your living area it can become very easy to feel overwhelmed when getting for work or school. Finding a specific article of clothes, an assignment or even your keys can become a nightmare, causing your day to start off on the wrong foot. When everything is in its proper place, you eliminate the negative experience of running around flustered , by grabbing what you need and heading out to have an amazing day.

3. You will own higher quality items. Instead of buying little things here and there, I saved my money for higher quality clothing, accessories and furniture. This prevents you from constantly spending money and also gives you the feeling of reward when you buy something nicer.

4. You are supporting the environment. Constantly purchasing gadgets, clothing and other accessories impacts the environment. These things will eventually wear out and need to be thrown away, further filling in our landfills.

5. You will start embracing experiences rather than objects. Ask yourself if you really need this in your life or would you rather obtain memories and experiences. An example of this is travel. The moment I started traveling I realized I rather enjoy the memories I make when I travel to a new country and become a part of the culture and environment rather than accumulating objects that sit at home and gather dust.

Choosing Your Signature Scent and Packing it With You Anywhere You Go

Finding the right scent is not always easy, with so many perfumes and colognes on the market sometimes it’s really hard to choose especially when the prices can be pretty steep. Here are a few tips on how to pick the right scent for you as well as a great accessory in which to store your perfume or cologne while traveling or even on a daily basis.

Let’s begin with how to choose a scent and afterwards I will give you an example of my favorite one. If you are enjoying this post so far give it a like so I know:) Also just a disclaimer, this is not an ad, just something I wanted to share.

1. Before you even go into the store, you need to think about what it is that you like. Do you prefer light, floral scents, or do you crave a bit of a citrus. There are many categories to choose from. Once you decide on a starting point you can then begin looking into certain brands.

2. Next spritz a few samples on bare skin. In order to get the most realistic sense of the scent it must mix with your own skin, the chemicals each person produces is different so it may smell great on paper but you may not like it so much on your skin. Don’t be afraid to test out as many samples as possible. Having a wide variety to choose from is a great oppurtunity to discover something new.

3. Finally narrow it down to your favorites. It could be one, two or even more. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. If you like something you normally wouldn’t wear, purchase a sample size. That way you have the opportunity to decide how much you really like it and then go back for the larger size.

Now if you can’t quite decide on a scent right then and there here is a tip. Most stores with a perfume department offer samplers. An assortment of perfumes which allow you to test out several for the price of one. What I like about these samplers is that they aren’t too expensive and the containers in which they come are travel size. I always like to refresh my perfume towards the middle of the day because I feel like it wears off and these are perfect to carry with me on a daily basis.

This particular one is from Sephora. It comes with seventeen popular brands and can also be purchased as a gift. withy Valentine’s Day just around the corner, this is a great gift to buy. This particular one is $65.00, I would say that is a reasonable price for 17 different scents. However there are other options less expensive and with less options because it can be a little intimidatig deciding between 17 scents. I usually buy them individually and they come out to be pricey per item therefore I prefer to purchase sets such as these.

shopping.jpg

Now in the situation that you choose a scent which you absolutely adore and you want to carry it around with you everywhere but do not have any desire to lug around the whole bottle or constantly pay for the travel size, I introduce to you the Travalo. This accessory has become a must have in my everyday life. A refillable perfume container which is TSA approved and can be replenished directly from the original bottle. It comes in  variety of colors therefore everyone can choose the color that fits them best.  I have to say I am completely obsessed with this item.

A Few Reasons Why

Just because its wintertime, doesn’t mean you can’t look cute. Sometimes it’s easier to throw on some sweatpants and t-shirt because let’s face it, when it’s cold and dreary outside, all you want is to feel comfortable and warm. But that is possible, all it takes is a little bit of planning. What motivates you to look your best everyday? Comment below, I would love to hear about it. I know I have a much better day when I am put together and wearing something cute. So grab your favorite knee high boots and a warm sweater dress like this one from Fashion Nova, and begin your day of right.

A few reasons why it’s important to dress nice…

1. Life is short. Looking your best =feeling your best and that goes for anyone. Taking care of yourself means you love yourself, and that’s extremely important. No one will take better care of YOU, than YOU.

2. Fashion is a chance to express your inner beauty. Why hold yourself back? Show the world what you have to offer.

3. You ARE beautiful. Why conceal it?

4. You never know who you will run into. I’m not saying you have to wear your fanciest dress, or have a pound of makeup on your face, a cute outfit and put together hair is always pleasant. Be yourself and follow your own standards.

Here are a few reasons I’m obsessed-with this dress. First of all its very form fitting which I prefer when choosing clothing. The fabric is stretchy and non constricting which is great, I feel like I am wearing a second skin. The color is light and easy to accessorize. And lastly the dress is extremely soft. I feel wintertime is a season where wearing soft, comfortable clothes is key. I hate waking up and having to overthink what I will wear that day. So having a few warm dresses makes my life much simpler.

My boots are from Nordstrom Rack. I really love wearing knee high boots because I can combine them with dresses, jeans or shorts. These are by Kenneth Cole and I love the slits at the back giving it an edge. Usually whenever I buy knee highs, I always have a problem with the tops sliding down. But these are excellent in staying up on my thighs.

Since the weather has been on and off here in LA, one day its cold and the next extremely warm, I try and purchase clothing that can be used for a variety of seasons, and in case it is cold, you can always throw on a jacket and you’ll be good to go.

Keep Your Skin Hydrated with Vitamin E

As much as I love winter weather, cold air always dries my skin out. Finding products that hydrate my skin without leaving it feeling oily or heavy is always a challenge. Luckily, The Body Shop has a skin care line which does both. The Vitamin E has several products which can be used together or separately depending on your needs.

If you are enjoying this post so far give it a 👍 Subscribe for more posts 📩

Let’s begin with the face wash. The consistency is gel like with a light scent. It foams really nicely when mixed with a bit of water leaving your skin feeling soft and dewy. Don’t be afraid of using it daily as the formula is very gentle on the skin.Next we have the Hydrating Toner. Let me tell you, no matter how diligently you wash your face, traces of makeup and oils are still left behind. Toners also assist in shrinking pores, and restoring the pH balance after washing your face. Even the most gentle cleaner have the tendency to dry out your skin so restoring the balance quickly is important so your skin doesn’t freak out and start overproducing oil. This night cream is by far my favorite. Although it has a thick consistency, I don’t feel any heaviness the following morning. It absorbs well into the skin leaving my face silky soft in the morning.Last but not least, under eye cream. I personally have always experienced dark circles under my eyes, whether it is from lack of sleep or I am just genetically predisposed to puffy eyes, who knows. But the fact is they aren’t attractive and applying the cream before bed reduces the puffiness in the morning leaving me much happier. If you enjoyed reading this post give it a 👍

Find Your Motivation and Run With It (Inspiration)

Life changing book leads to life changing actions.

In the past, I would prevent myself from achieving what I want because of two things. One I wasn’t sure what I wanted, and two, I didn’t know how to get there. I would feel uneasy and not follow through with most things, start different projects and then just give up when things didn’t go how I planned. Afterwards, I would feel even worse for giving up. One day a friend gave me a great book called “The Buddha Walks into a Bar . . .: A Guide to Life for a New Generation” This book turned my mindset completely around and let me tell you why.

http://a.co/coTNSp7

After reading the first few pages, I instantly became inspired. The book described all the scenarios I was feeling. I then realized I wanted to better myself, to become a more compassionate person, to feel in control of my life rather than feeling overwhelmed.

Step one, I began by taking a few minutes out of my day to meditate: mediate in my own way, because everyone can take a big idea and apply it to their own lives. I remember many nights I would have anxiety, my mind racing faster and faster, all the worries in the world consuming me. The stress of graduating college, working two jobs, the lack of time to pursue my passion which is dancing and so forth. I would wake up the following morning groggy and sleep deprived, dreading having to face another day.

When I started reading this book, I decided to give the ideas in it a try. What was the worst that could happen? One concept this book stresses is meditation and the benefits it provides. So before bed, I would sit down, close my eyes and attempt to clear my mind. Just sit and focus on my breathing, which wasn’t easy, still isn’t easy. Every second various thoughts would creep into my mind. But I was determined, and although it’s still not easy to completely clear my mind, meditating has helped me relax and feel calmer. Afterwards, any time I felt my life spinning out of control, I would close my eyes and just breath. Shortly after, I began challenging myself to improve the little things which adversely impacted my life. Things I didn’t pay attention to or just chose to ignore. Slowly, but surely things in my life began to change. I began to change. This book did not give me any kind of power or magic. It simply opened up my eyes to the fact that everyone change their life in little or big ways. Its all about finding the motivation to do so. Today I can happily say that I am pursuing what I love no matter how difficult or challenging it may be. I hope you too can find what motivates you in whatever aspect of life you need whether it is to finish school, find a job which will make you happier or even improve your interpersonal relationships. Thank you so much for reading.

Let me know in the comments below what your motivation is, I would love to hear about it.

Winter Look

Happy December!

Who else loves this time of the year? The weather is finally crisp and cool, the leaves are changing color, and now is the perfect time for hot chocolate and holiday shopping. With that being said, it is officially Sweater Weather. My current favorite are the cowl neck sweaters and here is why…

1. They cover my neck completely so I don’t need to wear a scarf, although scarves are probably my favorite accessory so I don’t mind it at all.

2. They are thick and warm, without the constricted feeling as turtlenecks tend to do.

3. You can pair them up with almost anything, whether you are wearing jeans or a miniskirt, you will look put together while staying warm at the same time.

If you are enjoying this post so far give it a like👍

This particular cowl neck is currently my favorite. It is super soft and does not have the scratchy feeling some sweaters have. But what I love the most about it, is the slit in the back and the ribbons 🎀 lacing the sweater together in the back. It gives the look a bit more dimension and femininity. The color is a light grey with black ribbons in the back. I combined the sweater with a pair of dark wash jeans and booties for a casual look. Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed this post! 💕 Give it a like and comment below what’s you favorite winter look ❄️

Summer-Sault Into Fall

Summer may be over, but it is still extremely warm here in Southern California. The only down side of living here is not being able to experience all four seasons. But the bright side is that the closer we get to winter time, the cooler the weather especially in the evenings. I can finally pull out my warm clothes, I have been dying to wear this warm overall dress which I purchased a few years ago in a small boutique store. I have seen similar styles in stores like Forever 21 and H&M as well. This dress is comfortable and casual yet still looks put together. I decided to wear it two different ways because it’s not overly heavy to wear during the warmer months. The first look I paired a pair of suede brown Vince Camuto lace-up sandals which I purchased at Nordstrom. The dress didn’t come with a belt, but I loved the cinched look at the waist so I added a belt that I previously owned. It is a very simple brown belt. My necklace is a choker like design made in a deep purple and green color glass from H&M. I thought it tied the look together very well.

If you are enjoying this post so far give it some love and hit the like button 👍

The second look is for the colder months. I added a black turtleneck underneath which I purchase from Forever 21 and my knee high boots are from Nordstrom rack and the brand is Catherine Malandrino. < em>Also comment below and tell me your favorite fall piece🍁

Packing for Iceland

Weather in Iceland is very unpredictable. Thankfully for the duration of my trip, I experienced sunny, pleasant weather, although the first two days after I landed, it was gloomy with random spurts of rain. I stayed in a very cute Bed and Breakfast in Selfoss and the evenings would get pretty cold. The trip itself consisted of many outdoor activities, such as hiking and a lot of walking so staying warm was vital.

Wearing layers is extremely important. Not only are you warm, but you can also peel off a  layer to cool down. My basic, daily setup was thermal pants and shirt, warm sweater or plaid shirt and my outer jacket. My socks were warm enough to only wear one pair and my boots kept me nice and toasty as well.

Below I have listed exactly what I packed. I hope this list is helpful to you as well. Almost everything I purchased for this trip was from amazon.com to keep my cost low as Iceland is on the expensive side and I wanted to save for the activities there:)

  1. Warm, waterproof jacket: This is extremely important in case it rains, to protect from high winds and waterfall mist.

IMG_3080.JPG

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XF2LNH1/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

2. Several fleece-lined leggings: I would pack 3 to 4 pairs. i practically lived in mine. I brought only black ones, but next time I will include multi-colored ones. They are warm, soft and comfortable.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JBQRWB8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

3. Fleece lined hat/Waterproof gloves: Keeping your head warm is extremely important. This hat I bought from amazon was super cute and warm. I plan on purchasing a few more for future trips.

~And this Swiss mocha was amazing by the way. Perfect end to a chilly hike :))~

IMG_3378

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018V1D4MU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

4. Thermal top and bottoms: Highly, highly recommend taking several pairs with you. They are thin, I layered them under my jeans and fleece leggings. I doubt I would have stayed warm enough if I had not taken these with me.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XDJRHZY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

5. Sweaters: Bring a few. No need to bring a lot, as you will already have plenty of layers. Also make sure they are at least partially wool or cashmere. Synthetics will not keep you as warm.

IMG_3071.JPG

IMG_3283.JPG

6. Swim suit: You do not want to miss the Blue Lagoon. It is relaxing and beautiful but you need a swim suit in order to get in :). This one I purchased from Target last summer.

thumbnail.jpg

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LWX3YEV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

7. Warm waterproof boots: You will most likely trek through mud and water and rain. Therefore a pair of sturdy warm boots is a must. I wore these Sorel boots almost every single day and never once had cold or wet feet.

IMG_2872.JPG

8. Wool Socks: Must have to keep warm.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019FETB74/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

9. Denim Jeans: Pack a few for those casual days when you walk around town or if you plan on checking out a few bars. The bar scene is very casual so jeans would be a perfect fit with a cute sweater or top.

10. Camera Bag: Preferable waterproof as you DO NOT want to get you equipment wet.
